Plantation vision

21st CenturyAt the bank of the Thames,
For the pounds, for our plan,
I toil away for my dear clan.
The tropical Esekogbeji,
Though winding, yet is sure.
The trail of this jungle is sheer torture
Its whole stretch a labyrinth of mines.
Hence I clasp my head, asking: wither mine?
As the sure-footed still bags seasons of wins.
My brown back aches
From lashes of the cold winter winds,
And the gales, as it rains down the snow flakes
I sought the sun like a messiah on the stake,
But all I see are cobwebs in the skies
Esekogbeji: Yoruba word literally meaning footpath
