Ministroke on a Cold Friday in January

Born 1946

There's a thing called a transient ischemic attack
and it knocks you down a little but you get up and go on.
Some people get knocked down a little a lot time
after time and get up and dust themselves off
And go on.

So that's OK.

One in ten get hit with a big one in the next
three months and maybe they can't walk and
maybe they can't talk and maybe the old gray cells
have turned a paler shade of gray, so they say.
And one in three get hit by a big one in the next
five years and maybe they can't talk or walk and
maybe they die on a fine summer day.

But that's OK.

And some live to be a hundred and ten, go figure.
It's too bad they all can't live but then again
check it out seven score years or less after leaving
Momma's womb the odds are one in one they're all dead
lying in the good dark earth or nestling as ashes
in a box someplace like Tulsa, Oklahoma.

And that's OK.
