Cats & Phantom of the Opera

By Donna Allard

21st Century

I missed Cats and Phantom of the Opera...
But I have tasted sea salt on a straw of wheat
Saw butterflies dancing under the setting sun
Made a wish while chasing after a rainbow
This Island life is more beautiful than a play…

There is a beauty along this seacoast that
I am passionate about, like a lover…

The wanting of her hand
The want of a kiss
Togetherness under raindrops
Togetherness watching sunsets
Togetherness like wheat husks bowing to the sun

Untouched by the distractions of city life
I muse
I missed Cats and Phantom of the Opera
But oh the joy of chewing on the tip of straw
More beautiful than a play
More beautiful each day
