See Now How War Is Spread!

By William Brendan McPhillips

21st Century

We see contagion, see how war is spread,
Afghanistan, Palestine, Pakistan,
If we can, why not? Surely not the dead.
A need to win, to crush, revenge, be man!

Retaliate! Whose armies wait to leap
Across the line? What wrongs must be set right,
By bully boys with promises to keep,
And ego anger bulging, wanting fight?

Gods old and older, Allah, prayed to, who
Dares challenge gods, and men enslaved by lies
They tell themselves, then tell us what to do
To be secure, in favor, in their eyes.
So it was always so, the need to vent
The bully boys! Who cares the lives they've spent?
