On Counting the Candles
21st Century
Forget the past and future gaze
But not the journey, not the ways;
And let the moment be inside
As deep as once it was and wide;
When Sun and Moon and stars and we
Were never young or old or free,
Nor wanting something else instead
Of what we found inside our head;
And all the future then and past
Will be alive again, at last;
And light and dark, or silence, sound,
Will be as one and holy ground
The Earth, the floor beneath our feet
And heaven all we know and meet.
