Poetry To A Rose - The Visit

By Deborah Berry

21st Century

Oh, you blushing beauty!
Virgin of the Morning!
Utterly I am slain by your fresh, sensual perfume.
Teasingly you disrobe before my eyes,
slow,
coy,
Until I ache
with anticipation.
All shyness cast aside, at long last the prize:
the sweet, golden middle
revealed in all its glory.

Penetrating layers of velvet, blushing flesh,
I dive in to drink long and deep of your sweet liquer.
At last,
I am sated
and can sup no more at your fleshly font.
Hesitantly, dizzily I depart, wearing a tell-tale, golden glow
Vowing to return for more.
