Free

By Geneva Hankerson

21st Century

The eagle flies free in the sky
The coyote runs free in the woods
         Oh! Brothers & Sisters
That was our life, free, with the winds
Free to do what we pleased,
until that day came.....
and everything changed
Now the eagle doesn't fly free
Now the coyote doesn't fly free
Now the beaver doesn't swim free
Oh! Brothers & Sisters
Now this is our life, captive without
the wind...
Another generation come and our life is still the same
Oh! Brothers & Sisters
This is our life, captive, without the wind
What is now left, besides our people, with confusion?
Our dreams, Our dreams, is still left
Our dreams of how it was to be free
