Soldier of Light

By Patrick Boyd

21st Century

Soon I will break from a small orbit,
Searching outer reaches for inner peace,
Widening the circle of perception
While shrinking the aperture that lights
On the soul's wonder,
Making a diamond laser of silence
And distance,
Chasing the mystic flame
That blesses with amnesia
The weary traveler,
Whose dark memories would bring death
In stillness of body.
But through motion of space
Bring stillness in paradox;
a prayer unfolded like hands
In strange answer to questions marked
by footfalls and soul steps.
A soldier of light once drew back the bow
And let fly a night,
Star strewn and unreachable.
Since then battles rage in finitude
With eyes long for the impossible.
